Your Web Site is Your Business Partner

Is your web site making a positive contribution to your business - as a productive partner contributing to the bottom line (and giving a return on the time and $ you've invested).

Today, many small and medium size businesses are able to answer 'yes!'

Here are the guidelines you need to answer this question for your business, and how to also make your web site a real business partner.

Firstly, which type of web site is yours?

  1. No web site Really? Increasingly rare - you should reconsider!
  2. Brochure Marketing information, maybe a product catalogue or case studies. Simple, straightforward.
  3. Interactive Customers can make detailed sales enquiries, download information, contribute to discussions
  4. Transaction Customers can order, and perhaps pay, online
  5. Business integration Web site is linked to back office databases and systems. Customers find current status, or transact online, directly with business systems

Secondly, think about your business and how it markets, how it operates. And what are your customers wanting from your web site (have you asked them)? How does your web site contribute productively to all these activities?

Is it time to develop more features, provide new customer services and support, or move to the next stage? Or even just get your web site performing properly?

Break this down into more detail with your ideas about:

Main problem areas,
Improvements / new features, and
Business benefits - partnership!

Thirdly, sketch out a plan for how you can make this happen. If you don't have time, or need expert advice, look for assistance. The key questions are:

What needs to be done?
How will this be done, and by whom?
How long will it take?
How much will it cost?
Is it worth doing: cost / benefit?

Lastly, if you're happy with the answers, go ahead, don't delay!
