i-way newsletter June 2003 Fighting SPAM Spam is the electronic equivalent of junk mail: unwanted and unsolicited e-mail sent to us, and millions of others, in large volume mailings by spammers. Spam represents at least 20% of all e-mail traffic, and is increasing rapidly. e-mail is now an essential part of business communications and productivity. So it’s a growing daily nuisance to have to clear out the spam in your inbox. What can you do to fight spam? The Commonwealth Government, through NOIE (National Office of the Information Economy) recognises spam as a serious problem, and has just released a Report (see below) on spam and how it can be countered, particularly by Government.
